In addition, Corina De La Garza is joining us in the health office and Jenelle Nilluka is joining our existing yard supervisor team.
This year our counselor, Jennifer Craig will be working at Jackson four days a week. We are thrilled to have her for an additional day! We will continue to provide classroom presentations related to making friends, resolving conflicts, etc. In addition, we will be providing small group support for students with common needs and individual support for students as well. We are continuing our focus on implementing our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) matrix this year. Character Counts assemblies will revolve around our Get JAG-Y Values. We will continue our JAG-Y Gem program on the yard for positive reinforcement of students who are exhibiting our positive character traits. The PTO is offering Get JAG-Y spirit wear as well this year!
In the area of curriculum and classroom practices we are continuing training for teachers and support staff on trauma-informed practices, de-escalation strategies with children, and PBIS. Three more teachers on our staff will be going through extensive training in GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) teaching strategies. Teachers in grades 2-5 will be working with a math consultant this year to review and improve on our math instruction. We will be piloting new Science materials, and IXL Math in grades 3-5.
Our sister school in Hangzhou China is sending 20 students to visit our school from 9/25-9/30. If you are interested in housing a student please call the office.
We have added a beautiful addition to the front of our school this summer. The PTO funded a beautification project that is also very functional. The planter box and wall by the kindergarten classes has capstones that are wide enough to provide seating for children and families while waiting for school to start or dismiss. In addition, we have three new picnic tables for seating out front. Please help us by reminding students not to go inside the enclosed wall where our new plants are trying to grow.
Please follow parking lot signage. We have limited space to move cars through the loop because the Fire Department required that a red zone be painted at the beginning of the loop so the Fire Engines can make the turn in an emergency without being obstructed by parked cars. Please help us prioritize student safety and time efficiency for parents by following the crossing guards' directions in and around the streets and crosswalks.
Be sure that you have re-registered your child on the aeries parent portal. By re-registering, parents can update student information, electronically sign off on documents that must be read and/or signed, and accept or deny authorizations.
