WEEK 37
  • Friday Folders - Inside will include their final Lexile, iXL suggestions, and End of the Year math test.
  • Report Cards - These will be handed out on the last day of school.
  • Last Week - I will be sending home their final projects and materials next week.  Please send your child to school with an empty plastic/paper bag to take it all home in.
  • Picnic at McCabe - On Tuesday, May 24th, we will have our end of the year celebration! Thank you so much to everyone that has volunteered to bring in items and ‘chaperone’.  We will be heading over to the park around 12:30.  This way, it allows students to pick-up their hot lunch if parents prefer that.
    • Chaperones - we will meet you at the park!  If you are bringing in items and chaperoning, please meet us at the park.  If you are able to lay out the items on the picnic table, that would be great :)
  • Volunteer Items - If you are bringing in items and not chaperoning, please bring them with your child, or drop them off at the office in the morning.
  • Share A Bit - Your student did amazing!  I was very impressed at the maturity level the students showed by being prepared on their designated date, and how much information they taught the class!

  • SBAC Practice - This week, your student is working hard to prepare for the test by learning how to navigate through the online testing portal, answering sample questions, and understanding what the expectations are for success. If you'd like to see what we're reviewing this week or continue practicing at home with your student, here's a link to all of the material I've been using.
  • SBAC snacks - Please refer back to Mrs. Wiliam’s Newsletter about bringing in healthy snacks for the class during testing weeks
  • Successful SBAC - Please make sure your child is getting a good night's sleep, eating a big breakfast, and given positive affirmations during this first experience with a test of this magnitude.
  • Words of Encouragement - Another way to really help calm your kiddos nerves before testing is by completing and returning the "words of encouragement" letter and sticky notes that were sent home in the Friday Folder before Spring Break (look for blue papers!).  There’s another copy that was emailed Wednesday morning, if needed. Please send these notes back ASAP, but preferably by THIS FRIDAY!

  • Warmer Weather - Students are loving running wild outside and getting great exercise.  They do a great job rehydrating and bringing their water bottles to school.  Some have been complaining about how hot and sweaty they get in the afternoon, so I recommend wearing layers and practicing good hygiene.
  • Jackson Laps - As requested per students, we are going to start doing “Three-Lap Thursday” and “Four-Lap-Friday”.  Because of this, please make sure they continue bringing water to school and are wearing appropriate footwear.  Students have the option to run or walk.

  • Sign Up Genius - A couple days ago, I sent out an email from SignUp Genius.  This will be where I post all volunteering opportunities.  I will update it each month, and add different opportunities.  I recommend checking this weekly, as I add slots as things come up.  I understand many parents are working, or have a full time job being a parent, so I do not expect everyone to volunteer.  However, I had over half of the class mention they were interested in volunteering on campus :) I am just grateful for the guidance you provide your child and support on homework.
  • Friday Folders - No news from the office this week, so just classwork and the student’s Chapter 3 Math Test!

Top of Page

  • Fall Festival - I am SO excited to see you tonight!  I will be there around 5!
  • Multiplication Tests - The next few math chapters are about multiplication and division.  After many years of studying effective math teaching techniques and assessments, time tests are not found to benefit the students.  Instead of that, I will be calling up students one by one and individually assessing them as I give them facts orally.  By the end of third grade, students are expected to know their multiplication and division facts 0-100.
  • Scholastic Book Orders - I have sent home a paper magazine in their Friday Folders.  Please submit Book orders online by next Friday, October 8th.
  • Friday Folders - There are a handful of handouts: Hot LunchMenu, Epic Info, GoNoodle Coloring, Growth Mindset Pamphlet, and Book Order Form.

Another week in the books!  Today brought us some rain with a side of crazy energy :)  These kiddos are full of excitement for the rainy weather, and I am so happy they got the chance to run around and play outside under the cloudy skies.  Please make sure to print out this week’s homework, and see my notes below...
  • Headphones - please make sure your child has a pair of headphones at school. It becomes distracting when some are having to listen to their Chromebooks out loud.
  • Picture Day - This will be September 21st.  Please see flyer in Friday Folder
  • Amazon Wishlist - I am blown away by the generosity from this class.  Thank you so much for supporting our class and providing us with items to create a fun and flexible seating environment.
  • Reflex “Going Green” - Many students are not completing this portion of their homework.  I have also received notes from parents stating their child finished this at school.  Please double check that your child has 3 green dots at home.  Only a small portion of students actually completed this assignment this week.  I have also sent back their HW that was turned in today, so you can see how many times they actually went green :)
  • Healthy Snacks - I highly encourage students to grab a healthy snack option for our morning snack at 10:05.  This is used to fuel their bodies and brains until a full meal at lunch.   (The school also provides free hot snacks and lunch to ALL students!)
  • Math Tests - The students have completed their first math test!  I noticed that all of the students tried their best, and that is all I can ask of them.  I will be sending back their math tests in their Friday Folders.  Please sign their test and return it to me after reviewing with your child.  If your child did test retakes, they will have a yellow paper stapled to their retake test that also needs to be finished.
  • Friday Folders - Student Work: math test, Reteach pages, writing assignment, Word Work, Spelling/Grammar.  From the School: Picture Day form

Happy Friday

We had a week full of learning, and enjoying the blue skies.  Captain was very excited to see some of you at the Ice Cream Social!  It made me so happy to know that almost the entire class came to the PTO event.  Love that about our school community :)
Below I have noted some important info/updates from the week...

  • New Friday Folders - Our sponsors have changed, so we have updated our Friday Folders.  I will be sending home the new ones, and holding onto the previous ones in case your child forgets to bring it back one week.  Inside your folders, the school is sending out Hot Lunch forms and information about the Monster Mash Bash.  Our room mom, Rachel Anderson, has a flyer in the folders too.
  • Amazon Wishlist - I have had a few parents ask about my Amazon Wishlist so I have linked it here.  There is no pressure or expectation to purchase anything, but I did want to provide it for you, as some were asking.  Regarding regular classroom supplies, we are stocked with hand sanitizer, Kleenex, paper, etc.  Special shoutout to the Brenk Family for kicking off our classroom flexible seating with 2 Exercise Balls!
  • Homework - The new packet is posted.  I received most HW this week, but was missing a lot of the Practice test.  Thank you to those that had it signed and returned.  If you wrote a note on the cover sheet, that was perfect!  If there is ever a problem/concern, please just write me a little note on the initials page.
  • Math - Students are currently completing their Ch 1 math test.  To clarify, students were supposed to complete the Math review that was sent home on Wednesday and bring it back with their HW this morning.  The actual test contains the same types of questions, but with different numbers.  The reason we do the same practice test in class and for HW is so that I can guide the students and show them my expectations.  Then they get the repetition of completing it at home and do it independently.
  • Rotations - We have begun our 2 week rotations.  This week and next, the students are with me for technology.  We began using Kodables and some of the students are already coding their own video games, as well as playing the creations of their classmates.  Their next rotation will be art with Mrs. Hadden on the 15th.
  • PE - I have been trying to take advantage of the beautiful weather.  Students are loving our time outside, and practicing being a good sport.
  • Labor Day - We have a 3-Day Weekend.  I hope you all have a wonderful Monday off and are able to spend some time as a family :)
  • Parent Volunteers - I am still waiting to begin parent volunteers.  The district will be sending out a list of requirements soon, given new safety protocols.  Once that happens, please provide all of that information to the front office.

WEEK 2
August 23rd-August 27th

Dear Classroom Family,

We have had another great week of school, and have seemed to work through any technical difficulties!  Thank you for being patient with me and reaching out with any problems or confusion.  I appreciate the open communication!  Below I have noted some changes/important information.  Please make sure to read over it, as well as print the homework for the upcoming week (Homework tab).

  • Scholastic Book Orders - I have received orders from a few families and will be submitting them tonight.  Please have your orders in by today.
  • T-Shirt Order Forms - I have received a handful of the orange t-shirt forms and $10.  Please return these asap so we can begin the process of ordering the shirts.
  • Pet Collage - Students may bring in a photo of them and their animal.  We are creating a pet photo collage on the classroom wall.
  • Friday Folders - Please do not be alarmed if some of the assignments passed back are not complete.  Every child works at a different pace so I only assign specific problems, rarely assign all of them.  Your child is always allowed to complete them later if you’d like them to have additional practice.  More than likely the math passed back will consist of a review page from the previous day (Reteach) that is completed independently, Mid-Chapter Tests, and Chapter Tests. Certain projects will be sent home, while others will remain in the classroom, or saved for their end-of-the-year portfolio.  During the holidays I will make sure to send home some of the crafts/projects so they can show them off at home!
  • Homework - The new HW packet is posted and linked under the HW tab.  This is to be returned in their purple HW folders on Friday, September 3rd.
  • Weekly Photos - I love sharing our weekly activities with the families.  I will be adding a tab to my Teacher Website where I will post some photos from the week.
  • Shoutout to Rachel Anderson… our official Room Mom :)
  • Friday Folder Handouts - PTO Power the Paw, Student Store, Library Info, Bookmark
  • JAGY Gems - Your students blew me away this week!  The entire class earned Jagy Gems 3 times for being respectful, using manners, and listening during the indoor recess/lunch.  The yard duties were very impressed and appreciative by the level of respect the entire class has been showing.

WEEK 1
August 16th-August 20th

Dear Parents & Families,

Homework packets will start the week of August 30th. However, you do have a small homework assignment this week just to make sure everyone knows how to print the homework packets
from Mrs. Dutton’s website and how to access the online HW assignments through Clever.

If you're reading this, then CONGRATULATIONS! You've found my class website! In order to print the homework each week, follow these steps:

Step 1- Go to my teacher page and find the tab at the top for “Homework”

Step 2- Find the link to this week’s pre-homework and download the file.

Step 3- Print out the packet, read directions, and complete.

IF you cannot print out the packet at home and need a printed copy, please contact me on or before MONDAY, so I can get your student a packet.  They will have a DAILY fluency component, so if you tell me Thursday, it’s too late. If your child is spending WAY too much time doing their homework, please let me know so we can adjust as necessary.

Step 4- Return completed homework to school Friday morning.

PLEASE!  If your child forgets their homework, LET THEM!  I will count it as late, even if you deliver it to school.  I want the students to learn responsibility for their own work.  This is the time to let them make mistakes!
