Homework
Homework will no longer be available online. If you require an additional copy of the homework, it will be available outside my classroom in a clear folder.
Please remember it will take time for your student to adjust to completing the homework packet. Please look at the recommended schedule for weekly homework. This was sent home in the purple Back to School Night folder. This may help in the beginning :). Please do not allow your student to spend more than 30-45 minutes each night on their homework. Please encourage them to take a break after 15-20 minutes and come back to continue :).
Please be sure that your student is going green at least three times each week on Reflex. This is part of their Homework. Your student should also be accessing iXL for 10-15 minutes each week.

Here are some important guidelines for homework:
Logging In:
When you do Reflex Math or iXL please log on using the big CLEVER button under Parent Resources or Student Resources at the bottom of Jackson Elementary's home page. Once you log in, all of these programs will be available to you!
Homework Packet:
Your packet will have one page of Language Arts, one page of Math, Spelling, and a Read Naturally passage. A parent or family member should time your child for one minute cold read on Monday and a one minute final read on Friday for Read Naturally. Parents, you may read the passage aloud first to help with unfamiliar words. Remember to record your student's words read at the bottom of the passage. I have included a letter and example sheet about Read Naturally in the first week's packet to assist with any questions :).
Read Naturally:
Your student will have a spelling list each week in their packet. Please make sure that your student takes the weekly pre-test and practices their spelling words. Your student will be tested on the required list every Friday.
Reflex Math:
If you don't see my name, type in "Mrs. Hughes" and it will take you to our class. The username for Reflex math is krishughes. You need to "go green" three times a week, and you can even do Reflex Math on the weekends. Don't wait to do your last one on Friday morning - it will not register on my account by 8:45 a.m.
iXL:
Please be sure that your student is on iXL for at least 15 minutes each week. They will be working under the LEARNING tab. On the drop down bar recommendations will come up for your student. This is where your student needs to be working. We will be completing the Diagnostic in class on Tuesdays. This allows the program to assess and reset areas that your student has mastered or needs further assistance with. It updates information for your student and resets their learning recommendations.
P.E - We will have P.E. each Friday. Please make sure that your student wears appropriate shoes on this day and has a water bottle at school :).
Turning in Homework:
The packet, Reflex Math, and iXL are all due at 8:55 a.m. every Friday morning. You may not call your parents for your work. It will still be late even if your parents drop it off. It is your responsibility to put it in your backpack Friday evening or Monday morning.
