COSTUME INFORMATION

On Safari

Our costumes, make-up and hair are going to be as easy as you want them to be.  PLEASE START GATHERING COSTUME ITEMS NOW.  I don’t want anyone to have to go out and buy anything.  I have costume ideas here, however, these are just ideas, you may come up with anything you choose!

If you need something, please let me know with AMPLE time to help you.  I do have a few extra items that I would be happy to loan out.  I will give these out on a first come first served basis.  I need a request via email for these items, thanks for understanding! We will put these together with things you already have around the house. Have fun, be creative and don’t go crazy! PLEASE NO MASKS!  I want to see their faces, but you may use face paint.

MAKE-UP:  Standard make-up for the show is so you don’t look like little ghosties under the stage lights.  Everyone (yes, even the boys) should wear neutral light blush on apples of cheeks, lightly applied (gray, brown, black) eyeliner from the pupil to the outer corner of the eye on upper lids, neutral lipstick (a lip liner is easy to use covered with gloss or chapstick), fill in eyebrows with brow pencil or shadow, mascara is optional.  Sparkles are also optional, but oh so fun!  Sparkles, color, glitter- feel free to go all out and have fun with make up and color.  While I do not want the kids wearing masks, they can wear face paint if they want to.  Less is more with make-up!  They do not HAVE to wear make up for the dress rehearsal or school show, but they may if that’s what they would like to do.

HAIR:     EVERYONE needs to have their hair neat and pulled out of their faces.  We need to see your eyes. You can have crazy hair, add color or glitter, ribbons or feathers, as long as it is out of your face be creative!

COSTUMES:  Please return all borrowed costume pieces at the end of the show.

For this show everyone is an animal.  Even guides change into animals. When guides are dressed as a guide, they should wear khakis or army green, I have hats for you. There are so many different types of animals in this production.  You may decide to research your animal and try to look like your animal.  You may just have fun with feather boas, fur, color, ribbons, etc. I have some fur, feather boas, animal ears and tails I can loan out if they fit your character, first come first served. You can use a towel, fold in half and cut a hole for your head, wear like a poncho. You can paint spots or stripes on the towel and use the piece that you removed for the head to make ears and a tail. Kids who are birds could wear yellow rubber gloves (like for dishwashing) on their feet.  You might want to pay homage to your animal or animal name in some way.  For example, if your name has something to do with speed, you could have lightning bolts on your feet or costume (think The Flash). The whole idea is for the kids to participate in the creation of their costumes (or the choices made for the costume) so they have ownership of it and feel proud to wear it onstage. If you choose to have someone make a costume or purchase one, that is fine, but there are so many ways you can have fun creating the costume with things you have at home and not have to spend any money to make it.  Remember, I have some costume items I can loan out on a first come first served basis to people who email me and tell me they need help pulling a costume together.  There are no rules about costumes except to have FUN!!!!

Costume questions?  Please email me, it’s hard for me to try and answer costume questions, or remember to look for needed items if you ask me before/after rehearsal.  Thanks!

What is JAG?
