Our year is organized by weekly and monthly themes that involve reading, writing, math, science, social studies and art activities. Students will have many opportunities to interact with our themes in the classoom and particiapte in fun and special activities with these themes. Within each curricualar area we have many goals and expectations for the year. Here are just a few:
Math: counting, recognizing numbers, putting numbers in order.
Language Arts: recoginzing uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet, knowing the letter sounds, being able to "say" and not "sing" the ABC's, recognizing sight words.
Writing: monthly writing journals, handwriting practice and letter formation, writing their own name.
Throughout the year students will have a number of opportunities to be the "Queen Bee or King Bee." This is a special day for your child to be a classroom helper and even bring in something to share that is important to them. They will find out the day before when it is their turn.
Once a week, on Wednesdays, we will be visiting the school library where your TK students will be able to check out a book to enjoy for the week. The library books are due the next week. I will put a library crate outside on Tuesday mornings to collect books before our library visits on Wednesdays.
On Friday of each week, I will place a crate outside with our Friday folders to be taken home at the end of the day. Please grab it that day and bring it home. Inside you will find news from our school or class, completed work, and more! Some time over the weekend, empty the folder out and go over the papers, notes, and work with your TKer. Return the empty folder to school on Monday!
