Curriculum

Please take a few moments to review the California State Standards covered in fifth grade.

You can print Math and ELA "I Can" Statements for Grades K-6 through the Folsom Cordova Unified School District website.
  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA) – Benchmark Advance is our new adopted curriculum.  Using this program along with other sources, students will improve their reading and writing abilities.  Students will visit the school library at least twice a month to check out books and complete project research.

Grades

Attitude and effort have an impact on students' grades.
GRADES ARE NOT GIVEN, THEY ARE EARNED.
Always do your best!

Letter Grades – Please check JupiterGrades on a regular basis to be sure all grades are accurate.

  • A = 90%-100%
  • B = 80%-89%
  • C = 70%-79%
  • D = 60%-69%
  • F = 0%-59%

** To earn Honor Roll, students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher (at least 3 As and 2 Bs).  To earn Principal’s Honor Roll, students must have a 4.0 (all As).

Late Work ALL WORK MUST BE TURNED IN COMPLETE AND ON TIME.  At the start of the year, assignments that are turned in within one week of the due date will lose 25% of the grade. Students who are assertive and communicate with the teacher could possibly earn up to 50% credit for assignments turned in beyond one week of the due date.

*Students must be prepared when they arrive at school.  Any assignments/projects brought to school after the start of the day are considered late.

AbsencesFor assignments given while a student is absent, he/she has one day for each day absence to complete and turn in the work.  Weekly assignments and projects that have been outlined ahead of time are due on the original due date.

Report Cards Report Cards based on the California State Standards will be shared with you by your children at first trimester conferences.  Second & third trimester report cards will be available on Aeries.

Homework

Homework is Important:
It reinforces learning, builds responsibility, and
helps students learn time management skills.

EXPECTATIONS:
  • Student BINDERS AND PLANNERS MUST go to and from school EVERY DAY.  Students are responsible for writing down (and bringing home) any homework assignments, project outlines, tests, events, etc. in their binders on a daily basis.
  • Nightly math assignments are always due the following school day. Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies homework will be assigned as needed.
  • Projects will always begin with an outline and overview of expectations.  The bulk of the work will be completed in class, but some support and time spent working at home may be necessary.
  • Learning to study for academic tests can be challenging – an important goal for students is to learn how to prepare for tests and understand the best strategies for learning the material.
  • ALL WORK MUST BE TURNED IN COMPLETE AND ON TIME.  Assignments that are turned in within one week of the due date will lose 25% of the grade. Students who are assertive and communicate with the teacher could possibly earn up to 50% credit for assignments turned in beyond one week of the due date.
